Best Buy – Glen Allen

It was all about the dogs (and cats) and even cows at Best Buy on April 23, 2011!  Hanover Humane attended the Spring Carnival sponsored by Best Buy (Glen Allen).  The event featured a bake sale, Hanover Humane Society t-shirts and goodies, as well as children’s games and a moonwalk.  Several of Hanover Humane’s dogs who are looking for home were also on site as did representatives from Chick-Fil-A, Virginia Center Marketplace.   Allison Penny, one of Hanover Humane’s volunteers, helped out the Chick-Fil-A staff by wearing the Chick-Fil-A Cow and waving clients to the event at Best Buy. Shown here is a Chick-Fil-A employee with Ms. Penny as they “manned” the “Spin the Wheel to Win Goodies”. All proceeds for the Wheel and the bake sale were donated to the Hanover Humane Society. The Hanover Humane Society, a 501(c) 3 non-profit entity dedicated to helping adoptable cats and dogs find forever homes, is located at 12190 Washington Highway in...

Alpha Phi Omega

On 1.22.11, a group of eleven Alpha Phi Omega members from the University of Richmond Chapter, undertook a service project at the facility.  The project, organized by Andrew Massaro, a senior at University of Richmond and Alpha Phi Omega’s vice president and service coordinator, involved clearing brush and debris to extend our “Paw Paw” path.   (Mr. Massaro has a special interest in working with animals as he’ll be attending Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in the fall of 2011.) Mr. Massaro and his group of Alpha Phi Omega members made great strides on the path despite the 20 degee temperature outside, nearly doubling the length of the path!  The group was treated to hot cocoa and donuts for all their hard work!  The members had such a great time that they’ve scheduled two more dates to return to the facility and work on the trail again to remove additional debris, add gravel, etc.   Funding for he “Paw Paw” path was originally provided by Robert Bailie and family.  The “Paw Paw” path is used by Hanover Humane’s personnel to exercise the dogs in Hanover Humane’s Adoption...
