Dog Days of Fall
On November 11, 2017, DECA and the Emerging Leaders at Atlee High School held the first annual Dog Days of Fall Event for the Hanover Humane Society The four-hour event, which was held at Atlee High School, consisted of a number of components: a dog walk, corn hole tournament, various contests, etc. In addition, there were food and beverage vendors on site. Hanover Humane Society was present with a marketing tent. Lainey Mountjoy and Kiersten Fender, Atlee DECA members, were instrumental in the planning of the event and worked with members of the community to promote the event, organize the contests, secure donations, etc. According to Lynn Pulley-Paine with Hanover Humane Society, “There was much positive energy and enthusiasm at the event on that cold November morning, and Hanover Humane was very proud to be a part of things.” Ms. Mountjoy and Ms. Fender used this project as their DECA Event for Community Service which will be presented at the State Competition in March 2018. Approximately $2,400 was raised at this event which was donated to the Hanover Humane Society. Hanover Humane Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit entity which receives no local, state, or federal funding. The organization relies on fundraising activities such as this event and private donations to provide for its adoptable animals. Brody’s Service Project
Meet Brody! He recently completed a Tae Kwon Do service project at Master Cho’s. Brody solicited donations at the Ashland Walmart on a Saturday and Sunday and gathered items that could be used to take care of the adoptable animals. He’s shown here with about half of his donations! In addition, Brody amassed over $400 in donations that he turned into gift cards for Petco and Walmart so that animal supplies could be purchased. Chip Visits All Saints Catholic School
Chip recently visited with Mrs. McAulay’s kindergarten class at All Saints Catholic School. The children learned about Hanover Humane and were able to meet Chip, who was born into Hanover Humane’s Adoption Program in 2008. Chip visits Pearson’s Corner Elementary School
Chip visited Pearson’s Corner Elementary School’s PTA meeting on January 23, 2017 for the All Panthers Read Book Reveal. Over the next few weeks, the entire school will be reading Dewey: The Small-Town Cat Who Touched the World by Vicki Myron and Brett Witter. The attendees provided Hanover Humane with many, many donations of puppy food, dog food, kitten food, cat food, and other supplies.
